Handy Hints
The Combo Toolbox is a convenient pocket sized storage container for all of the top selling surf wax blocks in Australia and O/S. Rub oversized blocks on your board so you can easily insert it or remove it and use either of them how you like. Combo's unique options are illustrated on the back panel. Here are some handy hints on getting the most out of your Comb/Box Combo:
1. Use your wax block separately when applying the first coat of wax to a clean board.
2. Use the back side of the comb at a low angle to score your wax coat without removing wax.
3. Use the front side of the comb to create deep channels or thin out your wax coat.
4. Refresh your Combo with SIQ Premium Surf Wax 100g refills with the biodegradable bag so you can re-use it for your wax and slip it back into your Combo.
5. Remove the biodegradable bag and slip the naked block back into your Combo so you can use WAX UP options in water, on a reef boat or jet ski.
Keep a Combo in your pocket, bag, car, boat, or jet ski for when its time to paddle in!
It's all about the beads! Yes its true, bead lover's surf better and we guarantee that our SIQ traction formula will create the best long lasting all-round sticky beads when applied as recommended (see SIQ page) so for the most sensational wax coat make sure you remove all other waxes from your boards before you start and apply your SIQ base coat in a cool shady place.
23°C - TROPICAL - 30°C
73°F (hard wax) 86°F
In tropical regions use SIQ tropical water wax as your first coat and apply a light coat before each surf, or apply a top coat of SIQ warm water wax for a softer sensation.
17°C - WARM - 23°C
63°F (firm wax) 73°F
In sub-tropical regions use SIQ warm water wax as your first coat and apply a light coat before each surf, or apply a top coat of SIQ cold water wax for a softer sensation.
10°C - COLD - 17°C
50°F (soft wax) 63°F
In extra-tropical regions use SIQ cold water wax as your first coat and apply a light coat before each surf, or if preferred apply SIQ warm wax as your first coat to create a firm beady platform and apply a top coat of SIQ cold water wax before each surf.
Your bead lovers wax coat is easy to maintain and keep beady, so naturally the use of any kind of wax comb should be avoided unless it's absolutely necessary (see below) but if you should feel the need, use a Combo as your back up and your bead lover's wax coat will be in safe hands.
The Bead Lovers Wax Comb
Combo performs like a flat wax comb when you use it like one, however its versatile design allows you to increase the surface traction without destroying your wax beads by using the back side of the comb at a low angle (see demo movie) alternatively you can thin out your wax coat and recreate your bead pattern by using the front side of the comb at a higher angle. Whether you use it front side or back side Combos standard size comb allows you to quickly comb the whole board with a minimum of fuss while the square tip teeth create a well defined step and valley in the grooves similar to a deck grip pattern and just as affective for increasing the surface traction.
When using the backside of the comb apply pressure with your forefingers to the closed top flap and the comb will flex outward into a convex curve. This curve will allow the comb teeth to penetrate wax in any deep dings or depressions on your deck.
Why Comb?
Not all surf waxes are the same quality but if you use SIQ Premium surf wax you wont need to use a wax comb. Our top quality surf wax produces the best sticky beads for the most sensational grip so the last thing you want to do is rip holes in it. There's only two good reasons to use a comb on a perfectly good wax coat:
1. You've run out of wax and your wax coat needs scoring to increase the surface traction.
2. Your wax coat is getting too thick and heavy and you need to thin it out evenly and increase the surface traction.
Combo has been specifically designed with these reasons in mind. If you run out of wax you can use the back side of the comb at a low angle and create a deck grip pattern as illustrated above. This will increase the surface traction by scoring the surface of your beads without slicing them up because slicing undermines them and causes them to smudge and spread under pressure.
If your wax coat gets too thick and heavy you can use the front side of the comb at a higher angle and create a deck grip pattern as illustrated above. This will increase the surface traction by scoring deep wide channels into your wax coat which will thin it out evenly and recreate a beady pattern.
After years of testing the SIQ Combo concept at home and overseas the boys have unanomously agreed that superior traction "is all about the beads" and theyv'e given the SIQ Combo the big thumbs up.
Firstly, for the sick traction formula that produces the best long lasting all-round sticky beads, and secondly for the innovative dual purpose traction system that gets the most out of your wax coat, eliminates the need to comb your wax before every surf and reduces (wetsuit etc) wax staining considerably.
Board Cleaning
Combo is designed to fit comfortably into the palm of your hand so you can strip wax from your boards quickly and efficiently (see demo movie). The flexible convex curve on the main deck scraping edge and the rail scraping tool on the bottom flap, will easily remove wax from your board and its dings and depressions. This unique flexible convex curve is a straight edge and curved edge in one which allows you to clean the entire board without the need to continually change edges to suit the surface. If you are removing old solidified wax that has not been removed for some time then soften it with a heat source (sun, hair dryer etc) to make it easy to remove and avoid potential damage to the deck scraping edge. If your board has excessive dings and deep depressions, you need a new board! But if you insist on cleaning it, you can easily adjust Combo's "flexible curved edge" to clean any shaped board, old or new. Simply soften the edge with hot water and bow it out with your thumb to a more convex shape, then set it under cold water. Your deck scraping edge will now effectively clean the wax from your old boards as well.
Combo Cleaning
Combo is easy to keep clean after use. If necessary, poor boiled kettle water over and through your Combo to quickly remove unwanted wax (with adult supervision). Keep your Combo out of direct sunlight and away from high heat sources, "WAX MELTS". if high heat is unavoidable, store your combo teeth side down. If your wax block should stick inside your Combo allow it to cool down or place it in cool water. Open both flaps, then twist or squeeze the box to loosen the block and push it out. To avoid the issues of melting wax choose SIQ Premium Surf Wax 100g refills with the re-usable melt proof bag.
Combo Construction
Combo has been hand crafted by surfers for surfers, which has guaranteed the inclusion of durability, convenience and versatility in its design. Every inch has been considered in the challenge to build a surf hardware tool to suit all surfing codes that need to maintain an effective wax coat, without any unnecessary bells and whistles. Combo is made of a high quality "impact resistant" polypropylene grade material resulting in a durable, multi-purpose surfboard toolbox. Testing has shown that "heavy impact" may result in bent teeth or clips, however they will rarely snap off and the malleable nature of this material allows you to bend them back into position. You can also bend the clips slightly inward to return them to a more positive connection, if necessary. The state of the art Live Hinges are a common industry method of forming a long lasting connection for the closing flaps. They are essential in creating a product with no detachable or "losable" parts, a major benefit of the SURF models design. Polypropylene is a tuff recyclable material that is versatile enough for the job of keeping your wax block and for performing the many tasks associated with surfboard wax maintenance. Essentially, if this product is only used for what it is intended, it could last you a lifetime.
